One of the things I love about being a photographer is the opportunity it affords me to capture things which I wouldn’t generally get the chance to do otherwise. I am for instance a huge fan of the Royal Family and have been since I was a small child growing up not far from Windsor and going with my parents to see the changing of the guard at the castle and the carriage procession for Royal Ascot. I now photograph members of the Royal family on a regular basis, my favourite is the Queen, I have lost count of the number of times I have photographed her over the years.
Royal Ascot is always a good opportunity to photograph the Queen and other members of the Royal family, the Queen especially as she loves the event and always appears to be at her most relaxed and happy. Years of experience have taught me the best place to get fabulous photos of the carriage procession and you will see some of these photos in the montage. The Queen often wears very bright colours on these occasions, this I have learnt is deliberate on her part as it ensures that she is highly visible and even people who only catch a passing glimpse of her as the carriage speeds by are able to identify her and be able to say “I saw the Queen”.
Today the Queen is 94 but is still attending many public engagements and obviously enjoying doing so, I would like to wish her a very happy Birthday and hope that I get many more opportunities to photograph this truly remarkable lady.
