I cover Chelsea Flower Show for Wiltshire life magazine, this was my third year doing so. The sun shone on the fabulous display of Show Gardens, Floral Exhibits and Trade Stands, The show held each year in the grounds of the Chelsea Royal Hospital, home of the Chelsea Pensioners, is a visual delight and a great event for a photographer. As always press day starts very early and I arrive around 7.30am a quick check in the press centre to see whats happening when and then its out to the showground to get snapping.
First off to some of the press calls taking place at the show gardens various celebrities posing with gardens and designers. Then a visit to the floral pavilion to catch up with the Wiltshire based exhibitors and arrange times to photograph their stands and exhibits. Experience has taught me that these days fly by and there isn’t time to take a break, as we have to leave the site at 3pm when they begin to prepare for the arrival of the queen and other members of the Royal family in the evening. The press centre is usually packed and there aren’t spaces to work so its better to spend the time taking photos.
This year there were lots of celebrities at the press day far more than previous years i would think. My favourites included Dame, Judy Dench who had a rose named after her by David Austin Roses, Peter Kay, Rupert and Jerry Murdoch and Mary Berry
